So, I've been on the road for the past month. It was great, but I wasn't able to work a whole lot. But I was able to see some shirts that I designed for The Wedding (wearing one below) and a new HOH hoodie that turned out super rad. It's great to be able to see the print up close.
The other picture is just something random i did right before we left. I plan on lots more designing and updating now that I'm home sweet home.

So, I realize my 'creation-a-day' has been on hiatus, so I apologize for anyone who actually visits this blog regularly. I have been busy moving our home into a new house. It's just 2 miles down the road, but still quite the haul. Moving day went great and I've got my workspace pretty much functional so I can get back to it on Monday. I will have PLENTY to post this week. Working on designs for my friends in The Wedding and Disciple. Looking forward to both of those projects. Here's a view of my new area:

My friend Jeremy asked me to do a little illustration for a shirt for Mad Decent today. It's gonna be a take on that Family Tree Of Rock poster.

It was a fun little project to do, thanks Jeremy.

Here is the base/trunk of the tree. Not that interesting on its own, but I'll post the final when it's done.

God as a Father

I've realized a remarkable parallel between God our Father and my own fathering of my son.

The thought stems from the situation of us as children asking our Father God for something. A "prayer request". Something like, "Please Father, I want this new job." Or "Please Father, provide for me a good spouse." Or "Please Father, heal this persons illness." Sometimes when praying and asking for something I find myself thinking, "Doesn't God already know what I want before I ask Him? Hasn't He already made up His mind about whether or not He will grant my request? What's the point of asking?"

Well then I put myself in the position of father. When my son is asking for something he wants (whiningly usually), I never just give it to him right away without even acknowledging him. And although I already know what it is he wants... I MAKE HIM ASK ME! I want him to ask me. I tell him "Use your words", or "How do you ask?" "Tell me what you want".

As a Father, God WANTS so badly for us to ask Him for the desires of our heart. Even though He is all knowing. And while prayer is still a pretty big mystery to me, even after a lifetime of following Christ, this little realization has helped me understand my Heavenly Father a little bit better.

First off, I'd like to thank my good mate Ethan Luck for executing my suggestion for anyone to add their own likeness to my headless spaceman. He's truly the only cat I know who could pull of a fedora in space. See his pic on left. Thanks Ethan!

I did a few things today. I

worked on some dialogue for Jon and I's book, which by the way is tentatively titled 'IN CARNE'. I would post some of it up here, but it would not make much sense out of context. Soon enough.

I designed a HOH tee. Always good to have more of those. See pic below.

AND I designed a flyer for our March 20th show at Skully's. See pic below.

Well, I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been very busy.

So I've decided to start posting things I've been working on. What a novel idea!!!

I will make it my mission to put up whatever design, drawing or any random accomplishment that I do each day. Even if its small or random. Hold me to it!

Yesterday I built a tracing light-box.

And then today I came up with this Hand-heart design, and made a House Of Heroes shirt with it.

Triumph over chaos

Ok, maybe that title is a bit dramatic. It comes from the quote "Art is triumph over chaos." I thought it was appropriate because I've been doing so much creating lately. But now I'm remembering that Christ is real triumph over chaos... So in conclusion, I regret my title. Oh, well.

Well, I have been doing a good bit of drawing and graphic design lately, with any spare bit of my time not spent at work, band practice, or family time. It's been fun! I've done a few shirts for some friends' bands like Ludo, Heather Evans, and House Of Heroes of course. And working on some stuff for the upcoming AwesomeFest'09, also shown below. I will be launching my design site soon, located here.

I've also started doing some creative writing work on a graphic novel I've started with my friend Jon. It's been such a fun challenge, since I've never done any kind of writing ever! We've got some solid stuff going so far that we are both really excited about. Maybe I'll post a synopsis or something up here soon.

We'll be hitting the road a bit soon here. I love playing the shows, but it's hard to be away from Michelle and Saylor. So I am both dreading it and really looking foward to it. Going to Phoenix for a festival this weekend. That'll be a nice break from this weather.

Oh, sidenote: I don't care what anyone else thinks, I LOVE 808s And Heartbreak.

Something we never think about...Civil War.

Of the course the first thing we think about when we hear those words is our own American Civil War (1861-1865).
But what I've been thinking about lately is a possible future Civil War.
Hang with me here...
My thoughts on this were sparked by a Marvel comic story titled 'Civil War' involving all the characters of the Marvel Universe. The synopsis is this:
There is a huge brawl between two groups of supers that gets out of control and kills a whole school of children. So the government decides it's time to make all Supers identify themselves and register publicly. This decision splits the hero community right down the middle. Tony Stark (Iron Man) takes the side of the government and leads the supporters of the registration act. Captain America (somewhat ironically) leads all those opposed. Peter Parker is slightly torn at first, wanting to support his friend and mentor Tony and the American government, but doesn't ever feel like he's doing the right thing. He reluctantly reveals his hidden identity to the world, which is followed by threats and attempted assasinations by old foes. He finds himself in a fight with Capt. America, whom he respects. Cap tries to convince Peter that he's on the wrong side. In the begining, for Peter, it's not a question of Right or Wrong, Moral or Immoral, but Legal vs. Illegal. This is what he uses to justify the choice he's made, but knows in his heart is not right.
This conflict got me thinking: "How will I feel, and what will I choose, if or when our government decides to enforce a law that goes against what I believe as a follower of Christ?" The query has breezed through my mind in the past, as I'm sure it has yours.
But I'v been meditating on the reality of it more recently.
What would you do???
As Christians we are called to follow the law of our government, unless it contradicts the Law of God. I thinks it's likely that I will face a conflict like this in my lifetime. If not me, then my children surely.
Peter Parker makes his choice to register largely based on the safety and security of his loved ones, MJ and Aunt May. Having a wife and child myself now, I know it would be a difficult decision to knowingly put my family at risk like that.
In the bible. Daniel is a flawless follower of the Law of man, until they make a law forbidding the worship of anyone but the king. Daniel refuses to follow this and is thrown amongst starving lions. This is an archaic and extreme example of executive punishment. But imagine if you were threatened with home foreclosure, job termination, or even imprisonment. Would you be ready to accept those consequenses for following Christ?
It's something we should prepare oursleves for mentally and spiritually.
Anyway... To find out what happens to Peter, Tony and the Cap, I STRONGLY suggest reading Marvel Comics Civil War. It's an intriguing story.

On a lighter note:
I am LOVING the new Killers record 'Day And Age', as well as the Coldplay EP 'Prospekts March'.
Check both of those out!

WOW! A year goes by fast!

Yes, the years seem to go by faster...each...year. It's pretty sad that my last post was Oct 07'. Oh well. Here I go again. I guess I feel like I have more to say. When I first discovered the concept of Blogs I couldn't help thinking, "... an online journal?" Why would I want to post all my deep thoughts and raw emotions for everyone to read. But I have since realized it's not like that... soooo.

Some updates:

- Still at Starbucks. Getting a little tired of it after 4.5 yrs.
- Did a great tour w/ RK, Ludo, and This Providence. It was just long enough to really get used to the routine, and then come back home...bit of a rough adjustment. But all good.
- I'm back on caffeine. Which I could say is causing my sudden need to publish my thoughts. Definetly getting a lot done.
- Doing a lot more art...more on that in later posts.

Things I'm currently stoked on:

- Watchmen. The book was one of the best stories I've ever read, and I have high hopes and anticipation for the film adaptation.
- Organic Shade Grown Mexico brewed in a french press.
- The new ablum by The Streets 'Everything Is Borrowed'.
- Some comics I started reading...

ULTIMATUM #1 and... BATMAN: 'Cacophony' #1

Lastly House Of Heroes recorded 'Silent Night' and it is now available on iTunes amongst your other Christmas favs like Mariah Carey, Josh Groban, Jewel, Wilson Philips and 98degrees.

So go download that (i promise we didn't butcher it, as is sooo easy to do w/ Christmas songs) for only $.99.

So there is this great widget i have on my mac called 'On Tour'. It reads all the artists from my itunes and tells me who will be playing in Columbus! It's a great way to be informed without searching websites to look for tour dates and such. ANYWAY, I get so excited when I see all my favorite performers are coming to town, but I am quickly saddened when I realize I can't afford to go to any of them! :(
I just finished The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde and I loved it. Great book. I clicked with Wildes writing style very easilly. I just started a book called Politics, Prophecy and the Supernatural: The Coming Great Deception and the Luciferian Endgame. I can barely put it down. My brother just bought it and told me I need to read it, and I'm glad he did. So far I'm learning a lot that I didn't know about the Middle East and biblical history. Very interesting.
Well, I'm still 'on the road'. Almost done. Missing my fam terribly.
